Product Overview
The Christmas Candle is a timeless holiday film for the entire family. Deep in the heart of the English countryside lies the enchanting village of Gladbury. Legend has it every twenty-five years an angel visits the village candlemaker and touches a single candle. Whoever lights the Christmas Candle will receive a miracle on Christmas Eve. But in 1890, at the dawn of the electric age, this centuries old legend may come to an end.

When David Richmond (Hans Matheson), a progressive young minister from London arrives in Gladbury, the villagers discover a new formula for miracles; good deeds and acts of kindness. Now with a skeptic in the pulpit, the fiery candlemaker Edward Haddington (Sylvester McCoy) must fight to preserve his family's legacy. When the Christmas Candle goes missing the miraculous and human collide in the most astonishing Christmas the village of Gladbury has ever seen.

DOVE REVIEW for The Christmas Candle

    Dove "Family-Approved"
    For All Ages

This whimsical Christmas tale warms the heart and delights the eyes! A young minister named David struggles with his faith after a family tragedy. This story takes place quite some time ago and the long dresses and old horses and carriages add to the visuals. The movie has a definite authentic feel to it.

Eventually David goes back into the ministry in a small town. The people of the church have strong traditions and David attempts to do things differently but this doesn’t seem to be working. According to a legend, an angel came down and blessed a candle and now whoever lights it and prays will receive an answer from God. David emphasizes that the faith in the prayer is what matters, not a candle in and of itself. When a lady needs a roof David helps out and soon others do too as the people begin to realize that they can be an answer to each other’s prayers when they come together as a community. The movie’s climactic scene restores the minister’s faith in the power of prayer as he finds himself once again desperate for the need of divine intervention. This terrific movie features Susan Boyle as a singer and actress and she does a remarkable job. We are pleased to award this fabulous movie our Dove “Family-Approved” Seal for all ages. We encourage everyone to go see “A Christmas Candle” and believe you will want to light one yourself when you’re done.
